All, just wanted to reach out to the design community and get your thoughts on the idea of tokens or standup minis for a skirmish game.
I've been working on a skirmish game called Skirmish Tactics Apocalypse for a while. Here are the links to the game:
Rulebook
Combine Faction
Marauders Faction
Streets of Ruins Gamescape Pack
The download links have 1" and 2" square tokens for use in playtesting the game, but I've been thinking about making standup minis too. My preference would be to go with a chipboard or very heavy cardstock and use plastic bases. But I'm trying to decide whether the minis should have special cuts like this:
Or have just be simple and flat like this: .
Also, if I go with the background instead of special cuts, should I have a colored, textured background like Incursion uses or just a plain white background.
Here is a comparison of what I'm considering:
Token:
Standup with full background, white
Standup with full background, colored/textured
Standup with special cut (small white area around miniature?)...I know this looks rough, just use your imagination!
Thanks for any comments and ideas you may have!
