Project - 144: Champions of Hope
The game is a Euro-Style Strategy Game set in the same world as my first two fantasy novels, 144: Wrath and 144: Redemption. This is a high fantasy world with magic, swords, heroes, and monsters. The deities of the settings are draconic creatures. The game involves the recruitment of Heroes, the discovery of Artifacts, and expansion to new Lands (thereby gathering new resources) in order to wage war against the monsters/evils of the setting.

The graphic design work will be done primarily in-house, but I need one or more illustrators/artists to assist with the creation of images for Hero and Artifact Cards for use in the game.

What I Need –
I would like to offer upfront payment for the illustrations for around 10-15 cards. These illustrations would be busts/headshots (possible shoulder up) of individual characters as well as a few “item” illustrations. I have a digital painterly look in mind, similar to the cards from GameMastery NPC and item sets, but I’m open to artistic ideas. The only thing I’m not really looking for is something overly cartoony (like Munchkin).

Additionally, I would like to pay up front for a box cover image… again, a painterly look, that fits the theme of the game (Heroes against impossible odds… we can discuss ideas in more detail).
For the Collaboration part and a greater look into the scope of the project, the final product would have around 25 each of Hero Cards and Artifact Cards. I have already sent in a quote request to a production company and plan to put the game up on Kickstarter sometime later this year. The collaboration would come from a percentage of the Kickstarter fund, which we would negotiate. This allows me to pay in advance for the artwork necessary to launch the Kickstarter and allow payment for completion of the work to come from the funding itself.

How I Plan to Get There –
The primary reason for Kickstarting this is due to a limited personal budget. I will be putting what resources I do have available into additional prototyping (two sets currently exist, one made from wood, the second from more affordable materials… but, hey, the wood one was really fun to make). I am willing to negotiate fair costs for both the cover art and the card images.

I am happy to provide digital copies of my books those who could potentially fulfill the role of artist so that they can familiarize themselves with the world and see if it is something they would like to be a part of.
For the character designs, I would ask, as part of the “contract,” that the images not be sold elsewhere for use in other publications. I would hope to use the images in advertisements for the Kickstarter, on my (in development) web page, and on the 144 Creations Facebook page. Use of the same images in future works (books, games, etc.) would be negotiated separately.

In regards to a time-table, I am not in a rush. I have been working on this game for about 5 years now. It has been play-tested with many different groups and has just begun the blind play-testing phase. I do not yet have an initial quote back from the manufacturer, and there is more graphic design work to be done. Ideally, I would like to launch the Kickstarter within the calendar year… preferably around September or October.
